    Heritable family names (surnames) were generally adopted rather late within Scandinavia. Nobility were the first to take names that would be passed on from one generation to the next. Later, clergy, artisans and merchants in cities took heritable names. Family names were still used together with primary patronyms (father’s name plus an affix denoting relationship), which were used by all social classes. This meant that most families until modern times did not have family names. (more…)

  2. Conrad-family.com has been updated

    Conrad-family.com contains the story of the family and ancestors of  Daniel and Helen Conrad. This site was first built in 2002. Some minor updates were done in the last few years, but I’ve just completed a major update that has added many stories and photos. This site will probably never be “completed”. I will add more stories and photos as I find them and as time allows. (more…)
